About the song:

Van Goat’s latest Swing Punk single “Paper Thin” puts you in a green apron and throws you behind the bar of a frenetic, cold hearted coffee shop. The song’s lyrics reflect singer Lindsay Alexis’ time working at a certain well-known coffee chain, and its music sounds like a big band caught in a drive-thru traffic jam. Hectic horn lines and crashing percussion spin around and fall, like so many single-use cups of coffee spilled all over the floor.

“Not everyone was a monster, but most of them were. I was a monster too,” says Alexis. “You’d better believe all my coworkers knew when I got off that I’d be having my no-water soy chai tea latte with an extra pump of vanilla. I’m not proud. It was a dark time.”

Both a video and the single will be released on February 7th. The live video was recorded at the Ivy Room in Albany, and the single artwork features an x-ray of Lindsay’s broken collar bone from late 2019, a ‘paper thin’ fracture she experienced while in the middle of recording a new Van Goat album. That full-length record will be released in the summer of 2020.
